When the Saints Come Marching In…

2020 is set to soon expire, and many of us gladly welcome its departure. It’s probably safe to say that many of us would welcome a little divine intervention as 2021 rapidly approaches in just a couple of days.

Divine intervention is neither wishful thinking, nor a hope and prayer for the Palm Beach Christian Preparatory Saints, it’s a major part of their mission statement. Palm Beach Christian Preparatory (PBC) of Palm Beach, Florida is a new, private, all boys, college preparatory school for grades 9-12. PBC is set to open its doors in the fall of 2021. Their first class will consist of 100 8th and 9th grade students, intending to keep classrooms small with a student to teacher ratio of 15:1.

PBC’s structure brings back so many memories of my high school. I attended a small, all-boys catholic, college preparatory high school in Southern California (I refuse to mention how long ago that was) having many of the values and goals Palm Beach Christian intends. PBC’s core mission is to promote academic and extracurricular excellence in the boys they enroll into the school, and the men that they prepare to graduate from PBC. Christian faith, intellectual growth, and leadership in a multicultural society are the values that PBC school will entrust to the young men who plan to attend PBC.

Faith, academics, and athletics are the cornerstone of PBC. I had the same sort of experience at my high school, and these values I’ve managed to carry with me throughout my life. What it also meant for me is that I didn’t have to worry about being in band, and playing the violin any longer because we didn’t have a music program. We did have a quirky drum and kazoo corp, and thank goodness I was too busy playing football to concern myself with that outfit.

I’m not sure if PBC has plans to include music into its curriculum, but they do plan to start their athletic program with an 8-man football team. If you’ve never seen 8-man football, you’re in for a treat. 8-man football is more of a game for speed and skill, rather than the size and power of 11-man football. Finding speed and skill in the state of Florida for an 8-man football program should never be a problem for the Saints.

Though small in size, PBC plans to be big in stature. It will be exciting to see both the development of the new school, and its new students. They have already begun to break ground on the school’s facilities. Be sure to check our social media sites for more information about the development of PBC, and its athletic programs. We also have new ‘Get in the Game’ podcast episodes coming in the 2021. Our first podcast of the year will feature one of PBC’s board of trustee members, Willie Snead III. Snead is a former teacher and football coach and had been so for the better part of 28 years. He’s also the father of current NFL wide receiver, Willie Snead IV, currently with the Baltimore Ravens.
