Are You Ready For Some Midwest Football?

Symbolic of the the home school’s namesake, two “Titan-like” head coaches bring their Indianapolis Public School football programs together to square off against each other in tomorrow night’s home football opener at Arsenal Technical High School [Indianapolis, IN].

Steve Morrman, Washington

Steve Morrman, the head coach of the George Washington Continentals [Indianapolis] has been named Indianapolis City Coach of the Year on three separate occasions (2013, 2014 and 2017). Coach Morrman played defensive line for the Indiana Hoosiers 1979-1983. They won The Holiday Bowl [San Diego] in 1979. Coach Morrman is a “Titan” in the Hoosier state.

Craig Chambers, Arsenal Tech

Craig Chambers is the “Titans’” [Arsenal Technical] head football coach. Coach Chambers has also been a “Giant,” successfully leading the Marion High School [Indianapolis] “Giants” to a 34-13 record from 2016 to 2020. Chambers lead Marion to a 13-1 record in 2018 and a North Central Conference Championship [NCC], their best record in school history. Chambers took the job at Arsenal Tech in 2020 and will look to do the same with the “Titans,” who also play in the North Central Conference.

I spent a great deal of time with both teams over the summer. I watched several practices, and attended two separate camps that each of the teams participated in. The first was a camp run by NFL players at the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church turf field [Mapleton-Fall Creek] in June, and the Taylor University [Upland, IN] Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ camp in mid-July. Each team has their usual share of playmakers and several will be on display tomorrow night in Indianapolis.

De-Fayebeon Pittman, Tech QB

Tech’s De-Fayebeon Pittman will be hard to miss. He’s 6-6 and 245 pounds… and he’s the quarterback! Pittman looks the part of a “Titan” and all that remains to be seen is whether he plays like one tomorrow night. Pittman is a STEATH-Rated athlete and is an HSPNSports.com Impact Player. He, along with several other players from both teams will be featured as both schools are partner schools with HSPN Sports.

This will be the debut of HSPN Sports Midwest. Be sure to follow game action with us on Twitter @hspnsports and @davidhillhspn before, during and after the game. Kickoff is Friday, August 20 at 7:00 PM EDT at Arsenal Technical High School. Postgame highlights and interviews will air on our HSPN YouTube channel on Saturday, August 21 at 8:00 PM EDT.
